DoubleStop Indoor Percussion

October 23, 2009

Thanks again for taking the next step in becoming a part of Birmingham’s first independent Indoor drumline. On this page you should find all the information you need to get prepared for our first audition on October 29th. Please read the following information carefully and please feel free to email or call us if you have any further information. The auditions will take place at Vestavia Hills High School Band Room on the following dates: October 29th, November 5th, and November 19th. There will be a 50.00 non-refundable fee payable by check or cash due before a student can be considered for membership. At this time we will provide potential members as well as parents with information regarding the season, dues, rehearsal locations, rehearsal times, etc. If you or your parents are unable to attend the first camp please feel free to come to any of the following camps. We will not make any decisions on instrument placement until our final audition on November 19th.

Auditions

Potential members will receive the warm-ups and audition material at our first camp on October 29th. We will spend the next three camps working through the exercises. We will take a “Clinic” style approach to ensure everyone who attends will benefit from your time with us as a percussionist. If it is possible Snares and Tenors should bring his or her drum to ensure they have a drum to play on. We will have drums for everyone’s use however it will be space will be limited. Again everyone should bring sticks, mallets and practice pads. Potential members should also wear comfortable clothing as well as athletic shoes as we will moving and marching as part of the audition process. We will evaluate each student on a individual level and meet with everyone as a group and as an individual after each camp to let students know strengths and weakness to work on and improve before the next camp. It is important to stress that the most important part of the audition process will be the students “Attitude.” A positive attitude and a student’s willingness and ability to improve and work hard will carry much more weight than any individuals “Talent.” Lastly it is important that the potential members show up ready to “HAVE FUN and DRUM!” This will be an exciting and fun time building an ensemble of percussionist in the Birmingham area as well as allowing students and teachers from different schools to build relationships doing what we all love to do…DRUM!

Location

Below you will find the address you should use for you GPS. When you arrive at VHHS you will turn in by the main sign at the top of the hill. The road will take you to a lower parking lot by the stadium. You should park in this lot. The band room door will be beside the double doors facing the stadium. This door will be open and I am sure you will “hear” Drumming.
